I used to do a lot of paintings of the old stone bridge at the Manassas Battlefield, until I overheard another artist refer to them as "all those paintings of the culvert." Ouch! But it remains appealing to me as subject matter. This particular version began as an experiment with modelling paste, and grew from there. In addition to the modelling paste, materials include gesso, watercolors, colored pencils, acrylic medium, spray varnish, pastels, texture gel, pumice, gouache and ink, not necessarily in that order.
