I actually started this painting in a workshop led by Carolyn Grosse-Gawarecki, but I was never satisfied with the direction it was taking. So I put it on the back burner for a couple of years, pulling it out every once in awhile to think about it. This year when I looked at it, it suddenly reminded me of the time we saw a great blue heron soaring over the bay in Maine. So I did a little internet research (now I know what Wikipedia is!) and found some photo references for herons. Beautiful birds! May have to do a larger version one day.
