The actual drawing is life-sized. If you are interested in learning to paint or draw flowers, I highly recommend you try a magnolia. This particular bloom was given to me by one of my students; I'd never seen one before, so of course I had to immortalize it. It turned out to be one of the easiest "flower portraits" I've ever done, due chiefly to the large size of the subject matter. No little fiddly bits! However, you have to work quickly; magnolias fade fast, turning almost chocolate-color before they quite literally fall to pieces.
